A few weeks ago, I wrote a blog post about the new year (it’s titled The New Year if you want to go back and read it!). If you remember, I challenged you to sit down before New Year’s Eve and write out everything that went well for you this year. Well, I finally had some time today to sit down and write my list. It is incredible how much happens in a year. Being able to sit down and write out my list put me in a much better headspace. I was feeling sort of down and empty today. Weird right? Because this time of the year is so magical and busy. I think a lot of people feel like it is unacceptable to be sad (or anything other than happy) during this time of the year because it should be so fulfilling, but other emotions still exist. I feel like I was mainly in a funk today because the holiday season always seems to slip away so fast. I was feeling bummed Christmas, and my birthday was over, and I was feeling that “back to reality” anxiousness, even though New Year’s Eve is one of my favorite holidays to celebrate. I could feel the worrying and overthinking creeping up on me, so I decided it was the perfect time to write my list. Wow! I can’t believe all the good things that happened this year that I have been taking for granted. I can’t find all of the blessings that have been covered up by continually thinking about what didn’t go right this year or the things that are wrong in my life right now. I sincerely encourage you to do this if you haven’t. It only takes 5 minutes!
I started by writing down everything I could think of and then looking through the photos on my phone from 2019 to see if I forgot anything. All I can say is life is good! Gratitude changes everything. It is the small things in life that make the difference and the people in your life who genuinely make an impact.
I want to make a point to say we should try to make every day of our lives feel like it is something special and that we are just enjoying life is. It sounds silly, but why not? There is no reason why we can’t make every day something to be celebrated. I love the quote, “Life is a party once you realize it is.” We are all indeed so much stronger than we perceive ourselves to be.
I hope 2020 brings you so many blessings and Happy early New Year!
“Life was meant for good friends and great adventures.” XO
